Cape Fear, specifically Martin Scorsese’s 1991 adaptation is a film which disturbed me beyond belief. Starring Robert DeNiro as the infamous Max Cady, this is a gruesome, brutal crime thriller which sees Max released after a 14-year prison sentence for something he didn’t do but that doesn’t mean he isn’t an evil individual. Max takes it upon himself to seek revenge on the lawyer who wrongfully ruined his trial. 

I remember watching Cape Fear for the first time and that night I woke up sweating thinking Max Cady was going to break into my house… now that is filmmaking, that is storytelling and acting at its finest. Cape Fear is not for the faint of heart, it is an intense crime thriller which tackles and addresses a handful of dark themes.

I highly recommend this film but please be aware of its subject matter before sitting down to watch this one.
