I am a very big Andrea Arnold, I first fell in love with her work when I watch ‘Fish Tank’ (which may be a recommendation for another day). She is known for her raw, gritty and often poetic portrayal of working-class life, particularly focusing on the experiences of women and young people in marginalised communities.
Bird (2024) does just this and places the audience inside the shoes of Bailey, a 12 year old who lives with her single father Bug and her brother Hunter in a squat in northern Kent. Bird is a film about freedom, a coming of age story that explores family and the search for belonging.
