Star Wars: A New Hope (1977) | REVIEW | #77

It is my goal for 2023 to review 100 of my favourite films of all time.

Welcome to the Filmprobe Top 100 list...

With all the Star Wars movies to choose from I will always return to the original, the one that started it all. Although, I am a huge fan of the Disney movies the original trilogy will always win. Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope (1977), directed by George Lucas, music composed by John Williams, movies simply aren’t made this good anymore. Who knew all the potential for this one crazy sci-fi movie? Who knew how popular it would still be all this time later? Star Wars isn’t just an entertaining movie to watch, it represents so much more than that. Star Wars is an inspiration, a representation of how powerful cinema really is.

If you're a Star Wars fan it should come as no surprise that this feature made our favourites list but for new audiences and new generations being introduced to Star Wars, it's easy for them to forget or neglect the original movies. You cannot watch the new Disney editions to the franchise without watching the ones that started it all, if you're a new fan or just discovering the Star Wars franchise, please, watch this 1977 classic. It's old, it may be a little dated, the special effects are almost comical in comparison to the newest release but these movies are special. A New Hope represents something so much more than a sci-fi movie, it represents passion, dedication, loyalty and creativity. Nobody believed in George Lucus' vision at first but now, now we understand and appreciation the ambition.
