In the 1950s, young Marty Mauser pursues his dream of becoming a champion table-tennis player.
Marty Supreme (2025) is the first major solo feature from Josh Safdie after the creative split from his brother and it speaks volumes for his vision and voice as a filmmaker. Marty Supreme (2025) is an electrifying, jarring, high stakes story of a man’s perseverance to achieve his dreams. From the outside you may think this is a sport biopic about a famous table-tennis player but trust me when I say, this film is so much more than that.
When a film has such a fierce marketing campaign like this one, we often start to retreat and become skeptical of the films integrity but trust me when I say Marty Supreme is a film that exceeds all exception. The marketing campaign only solidifies the films longevity, this film is going to be discussed for a very long time.
Safdie is able to create a gritty visual world of chaos. The films plot is fast paced and as you start to relax into the story another element of destruction is thrown into the mix. I wasn’t able to relax watching this film, my palms were sweating and my eyes wide anticipating the next moment.
Timothée Chalamet gives the performance of his career, a tightly wound, hustler who stops at nothing to prove those around him he is destined for more. A gripping performance that slowly peels away layer upon layer of his character, one second his behaviour is anxiety inducing and the next laugh out loud quips and outlandish humour.
A captivating piece of cinema that belongs to be seen on the big screen. Marty Supreme (2025) is a cinematic experience which attacks you from every angle. The soundtrack is intensely moving and jarring, the cinematography and editing style are fiercely vigorous and consuming, dragging you into madness of Marty’s life.
I got to see Marty Supreme last night at an early UK screening and here are my quick thoughts. Firstly, we’ve all been sucked into a marketing machine of this film and it honestly made me sceptical but from the first 10 minutes I knew I was in for an unforgettable ride.
2025 has been a very strong, revitalising year for cinema and Marty Supreme (2025) is the cherry on top. A true pulse-pounding, heart-thrilling, nerve-wracking, thumping, frantic piece of cinema.
