X (2022) | REVIEW | #79

It is my goal for 2023 to review 100 of my favourite films of all time.

Welcome to the Filmprobe Top 100 list...

X (2022) blew me away, after watching for the first time I was utterly in love with every element of this movie. Every shot is captured perfectly and every single moment wass executed with precision and detail.

Mia Goth is easily the stand out in this film, her performance (or should I say performances...) were completely compelling and truly unforgettable. She is a new addition to the list of Final Girls and I think she is more than deserving. Her character Maxine Minx is soft and somewhat simple but as the storyline grows and her character becomes exposed to so much pain and fear she develops and flourishes into a true horror icon. As I said, at first the first is slow, setting up all the characters relationships and slowly turning up the anxiety but as soon as Maxine starts wondering off on her own and can sense the trouble.

The story is simple yet chaotic, a slow burner yet continuously terrifying, the audience is left feeling anxious and tense for the whole duration of the film, there is never a dull moment and I highly recommend this feature to every horror/thriller fan.

X(2022) will definitely be one of your horror/thriller favourites of 2022, a dynamic, well written, well performed and overall unforgettable feature.
