We Were Liars (2025)
Breathing new life into the popular psychological horror novel of the same name, We Are Liars (2025) is a fresh series that sees the exploration of wealth, family, greed, addiction, grief, betrayal and more. The series is packed full of emotional turmoil all centred around the character of Candace Sinclair - we meet Candace after an accident, an innocent for which she has no memory. The rest of the series attempts to retrace her steps and ultimately get the answers she is searching for, Candace is played by Emily Alyn Lind who does an excellent job of portraying Candace’s spiral and eventual downfall into reality. Candace lives in a sense of shock, a state of confusion throughout the series and we must determine what happened to her.
The series is enigmatic, mysterious and keeps the audience on their toes from beginning to end. Finding yourself engrossed into the narrative, constantly accusing a new character, questioning everyone around her until the ultimately plot twist explodes the whole story in the final episode. As someone who hadn’t read the novel, I was genuinely surprised by the twist ending, it was deeply emotional and impactful.
If you enjoyed series like ‘Succession’ or ‘Big Little Lies’, this series explores similar themes from family greed, wealth and money. Along with the ongoing dialogue of secrets and keeping people in the dark. ‘We Were Liars’ (2025) is an interesting, binge worthy series which will keep you wanting to learn more each episode. What are these characters hiding and who is the one responsible for her accident?
Overall, ‘We Were Liars’ (2025) was a thrilling psychological series which intrigued me from beginning to end, the source material is evidently incredibly strong and it showed. The storyline was packed with emotion, mystery and twists along with the strong cast who all delivered compelling performances. Some of my favourites were the three sisters performed by Candice King, Caitlin Fitzgerald and Mamie Gummer; their dynamic and evolution through the series was moving.
