Pam & Tommy (2022)

Pam & Tommy (2022) Episodes 1-3

An original mini-series based off of the scandalous leaked sex tape of Pamela Anderson and Tommy Lee. Episode one we meet Seth Rogan as the primary catalyst for the tape being release. He plays a carpenter who Tommy Lee fires without paying, determined to seek revenge he breaks into their home with the plan of robbing them but he steals the holy grail…. Their honeymoon sex tape. It is so refreshing to watch something so uniquely new, yes this is based off a ‘true’ story but nonetheless, this story has never been told this way. Director Craig Gillespie has directed the likes of I, Tonya (2017) and Cruella (2021), both have a unique spark and a distinct personality to them and Pam & Tommy (2022) is no exception.

So far, this is looking to be one of the best mini-series Disney + has created. Although is seems strange this is on Disney + / Star because of the subject matter, but it is exciting to see this kind of contention on the platform. It’s broadening the horizons of what the platform is capable of and this mini-series is one of the best I’ve seen in a long time.

Whoever the casting director is needs an Oscar because wow, Lily James and Sebastian Stan are incredible and look incredible. Episode two takes us behind the scenes of their first meeting and damn is it brilliant, the cinematography is awesome and the music choices are perfect. Comedy - Lily James and Seb Stan bring the intensity of the characters and in doing so they are so funny. The scenes in the clubs are awesome and all the drug scenes are awesomely filmed and performed. The juxtaposition of the first half and the second half of episode two is genius, the luxury and excitement of their trip in Cancun vs the chaos of reality. Explicit nudity and sex scenes are hilarious, turning the concept on its head and making it comedic.

Episode three goes back to ‘reality’, the reason we are all here - the leaked tape. Back to Seth Rogan, now with his accomplice, Nick Offerman. We see these two struggle to sell / release the tape, slowly getting dodgier and dodgier until they decide to go straight to the dark web. Seth Rogan actually does a great job as this character, he fits the mould perfectly along side Taylor Schilling who is also hilarious and brilliant.

I could go on about how fantastic this show has been (so far), I am completely shocked at how much I enjoyed it and utterly in awe of the direction and the performances. If you’re on the fence with this one and you’re not sure whether you’ll enjoy it, don’t think about it, just press play. You don’t need to know anything about Pam or Tommy, you just need to be ready for a fun watching experience. I cannot wait for the remaining five episodes to be released, I am a massive fan already and I need to see more! The acting, the costumes, the music, the cinematography and the script are all ace, brilliant in all elements and you need to see it!
